Here’s the weekly radio review. To my new followers, on Mondays I post a small synopsis of what’s happening on mainstream radio (based on my work for Mediabase). If you’re interested in learning about radio, programming, charts, etc., I consult. Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Rhythmic radio: Miley Cirus “Wrecking Ball” and Justin Timberlake “TKO” are both two weeks on the charts, just barely in the Top 30 so far. Ariana Grande f/ Big Sean “Right There” has now climbed into the Top 15. Lorde “Royals” jumps from #11 to #8, with 600+ new spins.
On Urban Adult Contemporary: Not much new activity here. R. Kelly has a new single, one week on, titled “Genius,” sitting at #29. New artist Shaliek “The Past” seemed to have a single ready for the Top 10, but the momentum has slowed and he sits at #18.
On Urban radio: DJ Khaled “I Wanna Be With You” moves from #22 to #19 into the Top 20. Sevyn Streeter “It Won’t Stop” grabs 400+ new spins, moves from #14 to #12. And August Alsina takes the new number one spot, jumping over Drake “Hold On…” before Drake reached number one (??).
Top 3 on Urban AC radio: Jaheim “Age Ain’t A Factor,” Alicia Keys f/ Maxwell “Fire We Make,” Robin Thicke f/ Pharrell & T.I. “Blurred Lines.”
Top 3 on Urban radio: J. Cole f/ TLC “Crooked Smile,” Drake f/ Majid Jordan “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” August Alsina “I Luv This Sh*t.”
